Saugatucket River Cleanup

Join us June 6th on the Saugatucket River Bridge just outside of the Contemporary Theater. A great way to kick off the start of summer and keep our community clean for all to enjoy!

The Wakefield Village Association hosts events all throughout the year. Many of these events have become an annual tradition and keep getting better and better every year. Each event has a little something for everyone, and are all about bringing the community together. Read below for more information about the events we support each season!


Saugatucket River Cleanup | June

This event was started by a wonderful young lady when she was in 4th grade through the Youth Church of the Ascension of Wakefield in 2014. The WVA joined in to help and has supported her efforts every year since! The cleanup takes place on the first Saturday morning in June.  We meet on the Saugatucket River Bridge just outside the Contemporary Theater break into groups and clean the banks of the river. Come out and clean up the river for all to enjoy!

Rose Hill Golf Fundraiser | June-Aug.

This annual fundraiser features one of South County’s best par 3 courses at the Rose Hill Golf Club in a scramble format. Admission includes food donated by Phil’s Main Street Grill, on-course entertainment by Jack the Piano Man, and beer specials by our local brewers Whaler’s Brewing Company. Raffles, games, prizes and dinner what a way to kick off the season’s events and help raise money at the same time, come join us!

RiverFire | August

RiverFire is a series of FREE live music concert events starting at the end of June running through the end of August, every Thursday evening 7-10pm. Come early and stroll Main Street, visit our shops, grab a bite to eat, and walk across the Saugatucket River Bridge while enjoying live music from the from the gazebo amidst the ambiance of the fires glowing along the river.


Endless Summer | August

endless summer

A Saturday evening festival 5-11pm in the courtyard behind Phil’s and the Contemporary Theatre. The Courtyard is transformed into a Hawaiian themed luau pig roast, live music, games, Hukalai dancing, and a special RiverFire on the Saugatucket River. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt, flip flops, sarongs, beach gear and dance the night away to numerous musical acts.

We also have children’s entertainment early in the evening featuring princess sing-a-longs, special characters, aerial performances, fire dancers, and a few more special surprises! There is an admission fee that goes directly to the WVA and our events!


Oktoberfest | October

A Saturday all-day event noon-11pm. Main Street is shut down from 11am-5pm. A full day of live music, street performers, dancing, vendors, original art, kids’ games, food and drink. Enjoy evening RiverFire and loads of family friendly activities all day! Come shop Main Street as well as over 100 artisans and vendors! Local music all day on Main Street.

Roaming characters like Big Nazo characters, Paw Patrol characters, Rhody Ram, and Disney Princesses. Authentic festive dancers, local talent, magical mayhem by The Great Baldini, and more! There is an admission fee at the entrance to the biergarten, all other activities are free, all proceeds go to support the Wakefield Village Association and our community events.

Halloween Stroll | October

Featuring a trick or treating parade at businesses along Main Street and ending with a fun-filled evening at Wakefield Elementary School with the South County YMCA! The event starts at Wakefield Elementary School where we will organize the parade and then march across the bridge and right through downtown Main Street!

After the parade come back to Wakefield Elementary School for face painting, hot apple cider and hot chocolate, apple-dipping, a costume contest, YMCA activities, and more Halloween fun! This is another FREE community event for the whole family!


Winter Wonderland | December

Come out for a FREE family night and stroll along Main Street Wakefield for our Winter Wonderland! Start at Wakefield Elementary school field to prepare and participate in a holiday parade, then head to The Contemporary Theater stage for lighting of the Christmas Tree with festive caroling by The Contemporary Theater Chorus and a visit from Santa! If you aren’t in the parade – you can gather at the Contemporary Theater stage and listen to carols and sip hot chocolate!

From there the family fun kicks into high gear with a holiday themed scavenger hunt at area businesses along Main Street and featuring rides on the South County Trolley (our Polar Express!). Nonstop live carols and holiday songs from local musicians and artists! At the end of the night there will be a raffle for a new Christmas Bike for all those who participated in the Scavenger Hunt and got their cards stamped at participating businesses!

Holly Jolly Stroll | December

Our year-ending fundraiser, join in the merriment at some of our finest local restaurants! Start at Phil’s Main Street Grille , stroll to Mary Murphy’s, then take the trolley to the Mews Tavern, on to Camden’s, then a short trolley ride to Tavern on Main Wakefield. The trolley will take you back to Phil’s/Mary Murphy’s by 11 PM. Wear your best (worst) ugly sweater, Santa hats, elf gear, and come join the fun! You can purchase tickets at one of the participating businesses!
